Frequently Asked Questions
Q: It does not look like I am connected or I am not getting a login prompt? What should I do?
A: Open up a web browser and go to: fhm.ngc457.com
This will take you to a login screen. If you are still unable to connect, please contact NGC 457.
Q: How fast is the connection?
A: This service provides speeds adequate for updating charts, light streaming, checking e-mail, VPN services and standard definition Netflix. If the connection speeds you receive are not adequate for your needs, you may wish to consider a WiFi booster device available from the marina office or a hardwire connection through the local telephone or cable TV provider.
Q: How often do I have to enter my username and password?
A: Every few days.
Q: I’m only receiving a weak signal from all visible hotspots. What can I do?
A. The marina office has signal boosters available. They’re easy to use, they will significantly increase the reception of signal of the closest hotspots and are available to rent for $5 per month. Email ian@fossharbor.com for details.
Q: I have my own network repeater/extender; can I use it?
A: Unfortunately, these devices, if not properly configured, can cause network interference and disrupt the ability of others to use the system. Please direct any questions regarding this to NGC 457.
Q: How to I connect my smart TV or other device without a web browser?
A: NCG 457 encourages customers in this situation to purchase a WiFi receiver and WiFi access point for their vessel. A WiFi Access Point inside your vessel will allow you to connect multiple devices to a private network that you control. A company we trust to help mariners with onboard WiFi is Sea Tech Systems. NGC 457 is not affiliated with Sea Tech Systems; we have worked with them on other projects and trust their recommendations.
If you are unable to use this solution, please contact us.
Q: Is the WiFi Secure?
A: This is a public WiFi system. Generally, financial and other intuitions, which require personal information use SSL to encrypt the communication between your web browser and their sites. More information can be found on this subject by searching for SSL using your preferred search engine. Questions about the security of a specific site should be directed to that institution.
Q: I still have questions; how do I contact of technical support?
